Campbell 51 Lady Governors 44
By Clayton Carroll
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The term “first game jitters” was true for the Lady Cougars on Tuesday. With four out of the five Lady Cougars in the starting lineup being seniors, it was a bittersweet moment with Tuesday nights’ contest with Region 2 foe William Blount being the last first home game.
Campbell started fast in the first quarter, but the Lady Govs blitzed back to trail by two at the end of the first.
Throughout the first half, it was the Bella Lester show for the Orange-and-Blue. Lester scored eleven, but also found fellow teammates Carley Kitts, Lacey Pemberton, and Saylor Hutcheson. At the half, the Lady Cougars only led 24-19.
William Blount always kept the game within reach. When Campbell would have a run, Blount would have one of its own. Fortunately, a nine point second half from both Jayden Kitts and Bella Lester helped the Lady Cougars hold off the Lady Govs, 51-44.
Fourth year head coach Jason Kitts said “a win is a win.” He noted that his team has a lot to work on, as it was somewhat a sloppy game, likely due to it being the first game. He said however, “we ain’t gonna complain about a win,” and they will get to work, studying Thursday’s opponent, Oliver Springs.
Bella Lester, the Mills Doors and More player of the game, led the Lady Cougars in points with 20. Jayden Kitts also reached double digits; she had 11 points. Carley Kitts and Lacey Pemberton scored seven points a piece. Saylor Hutcheson scored four points, and Preslee Chapman rounded out the scoring column with two points. Reagan Davis and Destiny Rutherford played but did not score.
Speaking of Oliver Springs, the Lady Cougars travel there to take on the Class A Lady Bobcats on Thursday at 6pm.
