Steve Glenn Ayers age 98, departed this life on Wednesday July 31, 2024. He was born on January 24, 1926. He was a loving husband of 56 years, and a loving father that enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Grantsboro Baptist Church. Steve faithfully read his Bible every day. He proudly served his country in War World II in the US Navy. He worked for J.A. Jones Construction, building housing for workers at Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project. Steve worked or visited all 50 of the US states. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1988. Steve was also a member of the Stephen Holston Chapter of the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Steve Garrett and Mary Walden Ayers; wife, Maude Lawson Ayers; and brother McKinley Ayers.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jane Ayers and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Steve was the last surviving grandchild of Matt and Matilda Jane Dupuy Walden.

The family will receive friends on Monday August 5, 2024 from 5 PM to 7 PM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home at 305 E. Beech Street in LaFollette. A funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Rev. Delmus Bruce and Rev. David Goins officiating. The family will meet at Martin Wilson Funeral Home at 10:15 AM on Tuesday August 6, 2024 to go in funeral procession to Campbell Memorial Gardens for an 11 AM interment. Steve will be buried where he plowed corn as a teenager for Johnny Ayers. Military honor will be presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
