LaFollette council member Phillip Farmer resigns in order to run for mayor

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The ATV festival could be coming back in the fall. At yesterday afternoon’s City of LaFollette Workshop Mayor Cliff Jennings brought up the possibility of reviving the ATV festival, however he wants all municipalities to contribute to the effort. Jennings stated that he would be willing to go before the Campbell County Commissioners and ask for their support along with other municipalities.

City Administrator Stan Foust discussed amending the city advertising policy. The change would allow advertisements to run on websites, social media and television.

Jennings read a resignation from Councilman Phillip Farmer. He is resigning per policy to run for city mayor.

Peter Sawyer, a resident on Sunset Drive addressed the council about his cat litter not being picked up by the city. Public Works Director Casey Boshears reported that the department is not picking up anything that contains feces due to the hazardous nature of items previously picked up at other residences. Jennings told Sawyer that the city would talk with other cities to see how they were handling the disposal of cat litter and try to work out a solution.

Ordinance 2024-06 amending the LaFollette Fire Departments Title 7 of the City of LaFollette Municipal Code will have a final reading at Tuesday night’s meeting along with Ordinance 2024-07 amending Title 17 section 114 of the LaFollette Municipal Code. Resolution 2024-12 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in PEP Risk Management Pool (Safety Partners) Loss Control Matching Grant Program and Resolution 2024-13 are on the agenda for approval.

The police department will have two promotions on the agenda beginning with Jennifer Leonard being promoted to a full time police clerk effective Aug. 10 and Isaiah Lawson being promoted to a full time police officer effective Aug. 10.

Fire department employees have previously been able to use their vacation time in two hour increments. However the department is preparing to change to employees only being able use vacation time in 12 hour increments. The council will vote on this at next Tuesday night’s meeting.

Foust announced the city will have a food truck event with live entertainment on Friday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 9 pm, National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 pm. An event permit for Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church will be on the agenda for approval. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/30/2024-6AM)
