Checkpoint was Friday night south of Caryville on Highway 116
CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- A Caryville man and a man from Clinton are facing DUI charges after separate sobriety checkpoint arrests on Friday. “On Friday, approximately 150 vehicles passed through the checkpoint,” said THP Captain Stacey Heatherly.
“The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Homeland Security; Knoxville District Troopers, and Agents will continue to conduct sobriety checkpoints to prevent impaired driving. It’s important to remind the public that driving impaired is a crime,” said Captain Heatherly.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s latest sobriety checkpoint was conducted Friday night along Highway 116, south of Caryville, near Little Cove Creek Road.
Clifton Murray, 28, 359 Heareaside Road, Clinton was arrested around 10pm Friday and charged with driving under the influence.
Also arrested on a DUI charge was 50-year-old Johnny H. Baird of 110 Foxwood Drive, Caryville. Baird came through the sobriety checkpoint close to 11pm.
Both men bonded out in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
