Friday, July 12, is when early voting for the August election begins

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The election season is moving right along. There’s even been political ads on WLAF since February. The August General Election is the first day of August, a Thursday, with the November General Election set for Tuesday, November 5.

Today, Monday, June 17, is the first day to pick up a petition to run in the November election.

A total of 22 petitions were picked up for the Aug. 1, 2024, General Election. Of those 2216 candidates returned petitions to the election commission office meeting the April 4, noon, deadline.

Withdrawal deadline was Thursday, April 11, 2024, at noon. No one who qualified dropped from the race, according to Mallory Rosenfeld, administrator of elections.

Meet the Candidates who are on the August ballot.

The following candidates have returned their petitions and will have their names appear on the ballot. Here are the candidates who are qualified to run.

“The state will update us on the Federal and State Primary, who qualified for those offices, after the withdrawal deadline. These will also appear on the August 1, 2024, Primary,” said Rosenfeld.

ELECTION INFORMATION FOR NOVEMBER 2024 RACE

November (incumbent)

The City of La Follette and the Town of Caryville have seven combined posts to be filled. Caryville will elect a mayor (Bobby Stooksbury) and three aldermen; Ward 1 (Patrick Pebley), Ward 2 (Eric Jones) and Ward 3 (Lloyd Lawson). Voters in the City of La Follette will elect a mayor (Cliff Jennings) and two council members (Phillip Farmer and Wayne Kitts). Incumbents are in parentheses. Caryville Mayor Bobby Stooksbury announced in May that he will not seek re-election.
