JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute one of our hard working educators with a weekly feature. Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation.

This week’s featured teacher is Lisa Bolton. She is the Career and Technical Education Coach at Jellico High School and has been an educator for 30 years.

“I always said I would not be a teacher, but my mom said I needed to be a teacher. I think she was right. All the teachers at Wynn High School were inspirational to me, and planted the seeds that sprouted and drew me into teaching,” Bolton said.

Born and raised in Campbell County, she attended Wynn School, grades 1-12. Bolton got a great head start on her secondary education and had 26 hours of college credit at Cumberland College, before she even graduated high school, and before dual credit/enrollment was a thing.

Lisa Bolton is Eagle Tire Pros Teacher of the Week. She is the CTE coach at Jellico High School and has been a Campbell County educator for 30 years. She is pictured with her husband Neil Bolton.

“I married my high school sweetheart, and he joined the Army. We lived in Georgia, Germany, and Texas, before moving back to Campbell County. We have three sons and one daughter, and now have seven grandchildren who we adore,” Bolton said.

Her hobbies include reading, and she is learning to crochet, and plans to learn how to knit as well.

While she was in Texas, Bolton went back to school and graduated from the University of Central Texas with a BS in Business. After moving back to Campbell County, she went to Lincoln Memorial University and obtained her teaching license, and then returned to get an MBA.

“I taught at Jellico High School for three years before moving to Campbell County High School where I taught many different business/computer classes over 24 years, classes such as keyboarding, international business, personal finance, desktop publishing, multimedia presentations, web page design, computer applications, advanced computer applications and coding. I absolutely adored teaching computer classes. I also did the CCHS Yearbook for 11 years. This is my 30th year of teaching, and I still love going to work,” Bolton said.

She moved to Campbell County Technology for two years, when there was money in the budget for a Technology Coordinator, and then this year a new position became available as a CTE Career Coach.

Bolton applied, got the position and is now back at Jellico High School—again. She said she loves this new position and that she gets to travel to Wynn, White Oak, Elk Valley and Jellico Elementary and work with the 8th graders on Career Exploration and preparing them to move to high school next year as 9th graders.

This year Bolton also helped to bring Adulting 101 to all her 8th graders by hosting it at Jellico High School and she is preparing for 8th grade day in May at Jellico High School as well.

“I work with the Jellico High School students in CTE classes on careers and post-secondary opportunities. I work with the CTE teachers and Jellico High School as well and help them however I can. I have helped with FAFSA, college applications, dual enrollment registrations, CTE promotion and am preparing for the Industry 4.0 Diploma opportunity for next year. My favorite part of being a CTE Career Coach is helping a student plan and seeing them realize they can reach their goals. I work with some amazing people—Jellico High School really has fabulous teachers who are top notch educators, and we have the best support staff,” Bolton said.

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros. To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.

Reporter’s note: Mrs. Lisa Bolton was my Keyboarding teacher at CCHS and helped me learn how to type, which is obviously a very important skill for my career. Thanks, Mrs. Bolton. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/02/2024-6AM)
