JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Commission held its monthly workshop on Monday, discussing upcoming agenda items, including a Homeland Security grant, along with several contract agreements and appointments to the County Board of Equalization.

The acceptance of a Homeland Security grant in the amount of $14,500 will be voted on next week. It’s an EMA grant that must be approved through the commission, according to County Mayor Jack Lynch.
A contract with CSX railroad and TDOT was also briefly discussed and will be on next week’s agenda. TDOT will be doing miscellaneous safety improvements, and the contract just states the county, the railroad and TDOT will all cooperate on the project.
An airport committee management contract extension will be on the agenda next week as well as several appointments to the County’s board of Equalization. There are two spots open on the equalization board, one in the second district and one in the third district. County Mayor Lynch said he would get with commissioners on recommendations for appointees.
In other business, the E-911 naming of a newly developed road will also be on the agenda for next week’s meeting.
“The commission needs to look at these each month; I was told last month that the commission doesn’t need to approve them. I’ve been here 18 years, and we’ve always had to approve them,” Commissioner Rusty Orick said.
He encouraged other commissioners to look at them each month.
In other business, the 2023 Solid Waste Board Annual Progress report will also be given by Commissioner Zach Marlow next Monday and an MBI architect contract for the health department for each APR funding renovation and the CARES (immunization) funding renovations will be on the agenda for next week as well.
The annual agreement that needs signed between the state of Tennessee, the county and the health department will also be on the agenda.
Health Department Director Charles Turner spoke briefly to commissioners and said Campbell County has been “selected by the state as a priority for dental at no cost for the county.†The state will add some additional funding for that; around $150,000 to $200,000. The health department will add a second dental operatory with some of these funds.
Proclamations for Jellico High School and Jellico Middle School Basketball teams and for Jellico Elementary School will be on the agenda for next week.
For informational purposes, County Commissioner Dewayne Baird reported that the County’s auction held over the weekend for the industrial property and PTF building was successful. The minimum bid had been set at $520,000 for the building and parking lot with 4.82 acres and it sold for $650,000.
“It was a great success for the county,†Baird said.
That money will go into the Industrial Development Fund.
County Mayor Jack Lynch also announced that his office was looking for hundred-year-old businesses in the county. The state is looking to recognize them, according to Lynch, who said they had a list compiled of six or seven so far.
