JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Commission met on Monday evening voting to give a one time employee bonus to both full-time and part-time employees. This bonus is for non-school county employees.

The commission voted unanimously on the budget amendment that will give full-time non school employees a one time $1,000 bonus, which, according to Commissioner Chairman Johnny Bruce, “nets them about a $750 raise after taxes.”

Part-time, non-school county employees will get a one time $500 bonus, netting them about $400 after taxes.

“We’re happy to be able to do this,” Commissioner Beverly Hall said.

“We have some very dedicated employees, and we’re glad to do this,” said Commissioner Dewayne Kitts.

Commissioner Scott Kitts said all the employees deserved the bonus.

Commissioner Dewayne Gibson thanked other commissioners for playing a part in participating in giving the employee bonuses.

Commissioner Zach Marlow thanked the finance department for helping find the money.

“When we’re conservative, we can do these kinds of things,” Zach Marlow said.

Other commissioners agreed.

“Without our finance director and his department, we couldn’t have done it. The county has been blessed. By the Grace of God we’ve been blessed enough do this,” Commissioner Rusty Orick said.

In other business, the commission voted on several building and grounds agenda items, including the appraisal of county owned property, along with the approval to replace a HVAC unit at the Jellico Annex building.

The cost to replace the six year old TRANE unit at the annex is $2,900.

Also approved was to accept the quote of $3,000 from Woodford and Associates for the appraisal of the PTF building at the recommendation of the county mayor. The PTF building and property are located across from the National Guard Armory in the very back of the McGhee Industrial Park and owned by the county. The name PTF comes from a former tenant’s business name.

The commission also approved to add a monthly agenda item regarding 911 Road additions and name changes.

This month, Poplar Creek Road will be changed and split into two roads; Poplar Creek Court and the other to Poplar Lane.

“These changes are coming, and we’re the ones getting the calls on it, so it would be good to have it as a monthly agenda item so we know about it,” Orick said.

At Monday’s meeting, commissioners approved the road additions and name changes as submitted by the E-911 Communications Board.

An airport committee request was approved to ask Jeff Marlow in Finance to perform a cost analysis for a 20 year lease similar to that of the Life Star lease agreement based on current prices.  This is to be reviewed by County Attorney Joe Coker.

Also approved was the contract agreement with East Tennessee Development District for local planning advisory services.

Final business approved was a contract between the Campbell County Board of Education and Coca-Cola, as well as the sale of a surplus 2006 Crown Vic for the Emergency Management Agency. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/17/2023-6AM)
