Monday’s Powderpuff game was lots of fun.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night, at John Reynolds Field, three all-girl teams made up of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, held a Powderpuff football game to raise funds for the Lady Cougars Softball Team. The flag football games consisted of two-10 minute halves, with a five minute intermission between the halves.

A leap and a catch.

The first game of the night had the Sophomores facing off against the Seniors. Either the defenses showed up or the offenses didn’t as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Weather was ideal for Monday’s games.

Next, it was the Juniors’ turn to take the field against the Sophomores. The Juniors, coached by Luke Carroll and Landen Hensley exploded out of the gate, taking an 8-0 lead, scoring the first points of the night. Gracie Trefz would have a massive pick-six for the Juniors further expanding their lead to 14-6. The Juniors would hold on to defeat the sophomores 20-12.

The scoreboard did not stay on zeros for long.

After beating the Seniors 6-0, in the next game, the Juniors clinched their spot in the championship game. Their opponent was the Sophomores. I think it is safe to say that the Sophomores had no doubt the most animated coach, Mac Fritts. Fritts, on multiple occasions, was screaming at his players, as well as the head official Logan Belew, and even threw his visor on the field a couple times. This, of course, was all in good fun, but it didn’t stop him from having a good time and firing up the Sophomores. Unfortunately, the antics would not work, as the Juniors won the game 12-0 thanks to touchdowns from Saylor Hutcheson and Destiny Rutherford.

Hutcheson had to be the most valuable player for the Juniors, as she crossed the goal line multiple times, and used her speed to blow past defenders for some big gains.

All-in-all, despite the low scoring affairs, multiple dropped passes, and the non-stop trash talk that was shared between the teams according to coach Landen Hensley, this was a great way to allow for some fun, friendly competition, raise funds for the Lady Cougar softball team, and have a great start to homecoming week.
