Back in the day, there were three places to get a home loan

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Back in the 1950 and 60s, there were three places to get a home loan in Lafollette, Peoples National Bank, First National Bank and First Federal Savings and Loan Association. 

Located on West Central Ave in the Block where Community Trust Bank is today was First Federal Savings and Loan. They provided insured savings and home loans. The association board of directors was made up with local people. The president was R.L. Sharp and vice-president was H. W. “Wheeler” Hollingsworth. In the late 60s, they moved  into the building next door, which had been Walters Funeral Home.

In the 1970s, First National Bank of Lafollette bought the Home Federal building and property to build their new building. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/10/2023-6AM)
