Sen. Yager announces strong speaker line-up for Grants Conference

NASHVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) today announced the agenda for his upcoming grants conference which will include a strong line-up of speakers and grant decision makers with expertise in grant writing.  The annual Grants Conference will take place on Wednesday, October 12th at Roane State Community College in Harriman in coordination with the college’s Office of Workforce and Community Development. The conference will provide local governments, community groups and nonprofits with important information regarding available grants and the best practices for preparing a successful application.

One person shaken up in car-over-embankment wreck

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The call of a single-car wreck, over an embankment, with injury came in to La Follette Dispatch around 8:30 Wednesday morning. First Responders with the La Follette Fire Department responded along with La Follette Police to Claiborne Road where it splits with South High Knob Road.

La Follette Beer Board expected to issue violation notice

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Based on the agenda set for Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting for the City of La Follette Mayor and Council, the Beer Board is expected to issue a violation notice.

Ten tons of trash removed during lake cleanup

Special Olympics representatives present at Rotary

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Representatives from Special Olympics Tennessee presented at Tuesday’s South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon held at the United Methodist Church in LaFollette. 

After a 15 year hiatus, efforts are underway to re-establish the Special Olympics in Campbell County. Brandon Johnson is heading up the local efforts as area director to get the program up and running again.  He coordinated and introduced Tuesday’s guest speakers for Rotary. 

CCCLC’s annual golf tournament is today

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Cool sunshine serves as the backdrop for today’s annual Campbell County Christian Learning golf tournament. Lunch begins the day at noon followed by a 1pm tee time for 15 teams that will play at The Greens at Deerfield.

Karns claims home soccer win over Lady Cougars

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Lady Cougars traveled to Karns Tuesday night for their last road game of the regular season.  Being Karns’ Senior Night the Beavers were geared up from the whistle.  The Cougars started on their back foot as Karns was able to score three times within the first fifteen minutes.  Midway in the first half the Cougars began to play more aggressively and played the player and not the ball which led to success with Senior Cheyenne Davis being able to score.  The half ended with the Beavers leading 4-1. Promotions were the order of Monday’s LaFollette workshop

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Yesterday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council met with a workshop agenda full of promotions. The first promotion for next week’s monthly meeting will be in the fire department with Andrew Carroll being promoted to captain at a salary of $38,623.96, next will be the promotion of Jeff Fugate to full- time lieutenant at a salary of $36,606.57, Robert McLeay and Jordan Jones to full- time fire fighter at a salary of $31,077.47 effective Oct. 8, 2022.

Grand jury returns indictments on seven individuals

JACKSBORO,TN. – (WLAF)- The following indictments were returned last week by the Campbell County Grand Jury. These individuals will be arraigned Mon., Oct. 3 at 8:30 am.
