‘Make it a Grand Week’- Olivia Lobertini with The Grand on Central

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – LaFollette resident John Ward went from repairing iPhones to YouTube internet fame in just a little more than two years. He spends his days traveling all across the South East Appalachian region making videos highlighting everything from general stores from a by-gone era to mountain folk making sorghum and apple butter. 

Ward said he tries to use his videos to show “the good sides of Appalachia” with various hidden gem locations such as old general stores, drug stores and more. In some ways, his Appalachian Channel on YouTube and Facebook has turned into a “traveling destination” channel.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The chamber is devoted to supporting local businesses and promoting economic growth in the community, and the organization has lots of exciting things going on this spring including a Home and Garden Show.

According to Chamber Director Missy Tackett, this will be the first event of this type that the chamber has hosted, and they are “super excited about it.”

The Home and Garden Show is slated for Sat., April 20, and will be held at Food City Center at Woodson’s Mall. The chamber is seeking home vendors to participate in the show.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The Alzheimer’s Tennessee 5 County WALK is set for Sat., April 27, with a riverside walk at Clinton. The WALK is a family event, and it’s fun for the whole family including pets. There’s be prizes for Best Dressed Pet and Most Purple Pet. It all begins at 9am with the registration followed by the opening ceremonies at 10am. The ribbon cutting and scenic riverside walk begin at 11:15am.

Most homeowners dig without calling 811 risking disruption to utilities

ROCKY TOP, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)– In observance of National Safe Digging Month in April, PCUD (Powell-Clinch Utility District) today announced results from a recent national survey revealing that more than half (51%) of U.S. Homeowners plan to complete an outdoor do-it-yourself project that involves digging in the next year, but 26.9 million Americans do not plan to notify 811 ahead of their next project, putting themselves and their communities at risk by not contacting 811 before digging.
