128 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Campbell County

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) - As of Sunday afternoon, the number of PCR positive tests for COVID-19 during the pandemic according to the Tennessee Department of Health is 285, and that includes 248 cases confirmed and probable (one more than on Saturday).  Of the cases, 128 of those patients have recovered while 119 (active) patients are recovering and one patient has died.  Results through Sunday from 6,033 COVID-19 tests in Campbell County have come back negative.

Minor recognized for heroism

Jacksboro Police Officer John Minor (left) was recognized by Chief of Police Jeremy Goins (right) for rescuing a youngster from a wrecked burning pick-up truck.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - Officer John Minor was presented the Medal of Valor at last night’s Town of Jacksboro monthly meeting. Chief Jeremy Goins shared that on July 19, Minor responded to an accident at the corner of Elkins Road. When Minor arrived, he found a 12-year-old trapped by his seatbelt inside a vehicle that was on fire. Minor went into the burning vehicle and cut the seatbelt off the youth freeing him from the wreckage. Other victims in the accident were freed by the Caryville and Jacksboro Fire Departments.

Failing to maintain his lane earned a LaFollette man a trip to jail

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - On July 27, Campbell County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Phillips saw a Chevrolet truck traveling east on Hwy 25W. He noticed the truck’s passenger side wheels were over the fog line and then swerved back into the lane. He continued to follow the truck noticing it drift over the fog line almost leaving the roadway completely then swerve back into the lane.

THP arrests two Ohio drive-by shooting suspects

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) - On August 5, 2020, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Knoxville Dispatch put out a “Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) for a vehicle and two suspects who were involved in a drive-by shooting in Marion, Ohio. Information indicated the suspects may be traveling to Florida via I-75.
