 JELLICO, TN (WLAF)- Teachers make a difference in their students’ lives every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all our hard-working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Stephanie Shelton. She is the guidance counselor at Jellico High School and has been a counselor for 19 years.

Notice of sale of property for delinquent taxes by auction is Fri., May 10, 2024, 9am, at the courthouse

It was a packed courthouse for the 2023 delinquent property tax auction

JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – HERE is the list of property that is on the Clerk & Masters auction block Friday, May 10, 9am, at the Chancery Courtroom of the Campbell County Courthouse.  “This property will be sold at auction for delinquent property taxes,” said Dennis Potter, Campbell County Clerk & Master. It’s for the year 2021 and any previous outstanding years, according to Potter.

“We accept cash or check at the end of the sale.  Participants may also use a credit card which includes a 4% fee,” said Lisa Sanders, Deputy Clerk for the Campbell County Clerk and Masters Office.

Out building burns near two homes on Wednesday afternoon

Caryville Firefighters with assistance from the Jacksboro Fire Department saved two homes from fire on Wednesday afternoon.

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Two homes were in danger of a nearby fire on Wednesday afternoon. At 2:30pm, the call of a fire on Lakewood Road came in to Central Dispatch that an out building was in flames.

Eagles claim district title

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Jacksboro Middle School boys and girls golf team played in the district tournament on Tuesday at the Centennial Golf Course. The Jacksboro Middle boys (photo above) team placed first out of seven teams. The JMS girls team placed third.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- The candidates for property assessor, school board, road superintendent and state representative have visited the WLAF Studio recently to record their portions of the ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum for the 2024 races.

The forum started airing April 22, at 6pm on WLAF-TV 1089 (Comcast). It will air every Monday and Friday on Channel 1089 at 6pm until the August Election.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – LaFollette Police Officer Joseph Hicks was dispatched to 131 Nevada Avenue, Apt. 131, on April 13, around 5:30 pm, for the call of a suspicious person. The person was described as a white male, wearing a gray long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and carrying an orange backpack. It was alleged that the person was going through someone’s car.

A TDOT construction project that began last week runs through at least July

This work is on the south Cove Lake bridge, nearest I-75, on the Jacksboro side of the bridge.

CARYVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Crews with Jones Brothers Contractors are repairing the bridges that span Cove Lake on Hwy 25W (State Route 9) and Hwy 63. The repairs are both underneath, from a barge, and on top of the bridges on the decks. The first step is the underneath repairs followed by deck repairs. The deck repairs, the second step, are what will actually affect us, and it will force lane closures with traffic down to one lane in each direction.
