Sleep in Heavenly Peace builds 32 beds for 32 children who do not have a bed

Everybody had their station as the bed build moved methodically around the set up in the parking lot at Woodson’s Mall.

A NOTE FROM THE GRAND ON CENTRAL: “There is so much good going on in our community, and I want to share all this good with you every Monday here on WLAF in hopes that you will start your week in a grand way making each week a Grand Week,” said Olivia Lobertini, owner of The Grand on Central.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- It sounds like a swarm of bees, but it’s not. The latest swarm of bees sound was Saturday morning during the final bed build of the season for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

“Our Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers and sponsors, like the Lions Club, helped us fill a need today. Our goal was to build 30 beds, but we had enough lumber to build 32,” said Bill Thompson, Chapter President of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.  Thompson’s comments came Saturday morning following the latest bed build that took place in the parking lot of Woodson’s Mall.

Here’s where some of that “swarm of bees sound” originated during Saturday’s bed build.

Thompson explains that the SHP mission is simple, “We build beds for kids who do not have a bed.”

“This weather’s perfect! Kinda cool and a little overcast. Great crowd. Fantastic,” said Thompson.

Several youngsters lent a big helping hand.

A large turnout of volunteers and sponsors turned out and started the build around 9:45am, and the 32 bed build wrapped up well before noon. “We could not exist without our volunteers,” said Thompson.

“We had plenty of good lumber, and with such a large turnout of volunteers, we moved pretty quickly. When we have this many volunteers show up, the process goes quite fast,” said Thompson.

Now that this bed build is completed, there are still other ways to play a key role in the process, and that’s through donations of bedding. Anything twin size, new in a package, along with sheet sets, pillows and comforters are needed. Beds in a bag is a very popular item, said Thompson, who started the Campbell County Chapter of SHP in December 2018.
