That’s tomorrow starting at 9:30am in the Woodson Mall parking lot

This SHP build was in June 2024 at Woodson’s Mall.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- “We build beds for kids who do not have a bed,” said Bill Thompson, Chapter President of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. A bed build to continue the SHP mission is set for Saturday in the parking lot of Woodson’s Mall.

SHP provides a service for those in need, and there’s always a need for beds, according to Thompson.

Bill Thompson paid a visit to WLAF earlier this month and was a special guest on the Trading Post.

“We’ll start at 9:30am on Saturday, October 25, and we’re looking for folks to come out and help us build beds,” said Thompson. The goal for this build is 30 beds, and they’ll all probably be built in about a couple of hours.

“Those who would like to help just need to show up, no experience necessary. We’ll guide you right through it,” said Thompson. A pair of work gloves may come in handy.

These beds can be bunked which helps if there are space issues. Dean Stinson is a very experienced SHP helper.

“The Lions Club is sponsoring this event, and we appreciate that. However, there is room for more sponsors,” said Thompson.

Aside from helping on bed build day, monetary donations are accepted and so are bed linens. “Right now we’re in desperate need of white twin sheet sets,” said Thompson.

Thompson can be contacted at 407.678.2638 or connect to the SHP website, scroll down the page for the La Follette event and check on participate. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/24/2025-6AM)

One Reply to “Sleep in Heavenly Peace to host bed build Saturday”

  1. Two years ago our church built beds for 23 kids. This year another church in tow has picked that up and is building 60. The point is not who, but what. At least 63 kids will have beds. We did not go through this particular organization, but we encountered families whose kids were sleeping on the floor and others where kids were sleeping with adults. As one raised (I am educated enough to know that ‘reared’ is more formal, but country enough to still say ‘raised’) in and around LaFollette, I applaud the building of beds for kids in need.
