Campbell baseball squad defeats Fulton 8-2 on Friday

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It had been tough-sledding for the Orange-and-Blue on the baseball diamond the first twelve games of the season, as Campbell was on the losing side of the scoreboard in all twelve. The Cougars looked to get their first “W” against Fulton on Friday and did.

Jake Lawson was the starting pitcher for Campbell and had a great day on the mound. Lawson pitched five innings and only gave up two runs.

The Cougar offense had a stellar performance as well, scoring eight runs.

In the first inning, Campbell’s Eli Lawson knocked a home a run, and Peyton Douglas took a bases loaded walk to put the score at 2-0 after the first frame. Douglas finished with three hits on the evening. Zach Ross also walked with the bases juiced in the third inning; an inning in which Campbell tallied five runs. Tyler Cook provided two RBIs with a hit, and Caden Idles also brought home a run.

It was a beautiful evening at the ballpark Friday and a beautiful performance on the field from the Orange-and-Blue. Campbell, after the 8-2 win over the Falcons, travels to Powell on Monday for the third district contest of the season.

On Tuesday night, the Cougars are back home at Brown-Archer Field for the second game of the series with Powell. Jake Monday and Mike Miller send you the live coverage beginning at 6pm over WLAF. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/30/2024-6AM)
