Avery Bowens remains free on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Avery Anthony Bowens (above) is facing multiple attempted murder charges following the latest grand jury session.

Last week, Bowens was indicted on three counts of attempted second degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.

In Aug, 2023, Bowens was arrested after two people suffered gunshot wounds, presumably at his hands.

Limited details were made available at the time of the incident, but it was learned the shooting happened in the Grantsboro community in the early morning hours. A 911 call was made but authorities had difficulty locating the car because it was still moving. Eventually it was found on Country Oaks Lane.

Of the few details released, it was disclosed a man and a woman, believed to be in their 20s, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, based on comments from one official at the time. The woman refused to be transported while the man was taken by Campbell County EMS to a Knoxville hospital. Had weather conditions been better, the man would have been flown out, according to officials.

The shooter wasn’t there when police arrived. However, a few hours later, 30-year-old Avery Anthony Bowens, reportedly ex-military, was arrested in a traffic stop near the White Bridge on Demory Road.

Immediately following Bowens’ arrest, CCSO detectives executed a search warrant at his 344 Country Oaks Lane home, in the Grantsboro community.  During the search, multiple pieces of evidence were obtained that detectives believe were related to the shooting, reports said.

Bowens has been free on bond since mid-August. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 3/20/2024- 6AM)
