JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – County commissioners held a brief 15-minute meeting on Monday evening and passed a resolution asking the Tennessee Department of Transportation to “investigate” safety issues with multiple turn lanes on Highway 63 going up the valley.

Commissioners had discussed the problem at length at last week’s workshop after commissioner Beverly Hall said she was still receiving multiple calls about the turn off at Davis Chapel Road.

County Mayor Jack Lynch and multiple commissioners said they were still receiving calls as well from citizens complaining about the safety of the turnoffs.

At last week’s workshop, Commissioner Rusty Orick suggested passing a resolution asking TDOT to investigate the problems. Orick also suggested sending a copy of the resolution to State Sen. Ken Yager.

“I spoke to Sen. Yager about it at his town hall meeting on Thursday, so he’s aware of the problem and the resolution requesting TDOT to investigate it,” Orick said. Orick also said he “would like to see the engineering studies on the project.”

Commissioner Scott Kitts said he had received six more calls since their last meeting and that the most recent complaint involved a “major accident.”

Commissioners also approved the application and acceptance of a litter grant at their Monday meeting after hearing from County Litter Control Officer Glennis Monday at the commission workshop last week. The Litter grant is for $12,000 and according to Monday, will be used to purchase a boat trailer to be used during Norris Lake cleanups, as well as a 30-yard dumpster container that will be used for litter cleanups. Some of the grant funds will also be used to purchase security cameras.

In other business, commissioners approved for a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe with 206,000 miles on it to be transferred from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department to the County Emergency Management Services. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/19/2024-6AM)
