Jellico High School Principal Joey St. John expresses appreciation

JELLICO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The list of thanks is long and growing for those who have been so helpful, supportive and generous toward the Jellico High basketball team. “First of all, I’d like to thank my boss, Mrs. Jennifer Fields, the director of schools, the school board, the Jellico Alumni Association, the Jellico community and all of Campbell County as well as the business community,” said Joey St. John, Jellico High School Principal (TOP PHOTO)

“The encouraging words, acts of kindness and financial contributions will allow us to take care of our boys basketball team and cheerleaders for the entire trip to Murfreesboro,” said St. John.

“Our school administrative staff has been instrumental in getting everything set for the trip, stay and return home; arranging transportation, accommodations and meals,” said St. John.

Spirit has been amazing, according to St. John. From the school to the town and county to the alumni, the school has been abuzz with excitement.

“We’re hearing that people are going to travel from all over the state and out of state to Murfreesboro. We’ve also had out of county donations from across the state and even out of state,” said St. John.

Since the victory last Monday night, the planning for the state tournament seemed to be overwhelming. However, the financial support from Director Fields and the school board helped us get off to a great start financially, and then the alumni and community stepped up to put the icing on the cake turning it from an overwhelming challenge to an overwhelming response.

“Last, but not least, Coach Mike Reynolds and his staff have done a masterful job of keeping the players focused by maintaining a regular practice and class schedule in preparation for the upcoming game with Frank Hughes on Wed. at 9:45pm ET,” said St. John

“At noon today, our team leaves out for Murfreesboro, and it’s all possible because of your kindness, support and generosity,” said St. John. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/12/2024-6AM-PHOTO COURTESY OF WLAF’S MATTHEW MOORE)
