JOHNSON CITY, TN (WLAF) – The Jellico Blue Devils walk-through and last minute preparations on Sunday afternoon at Lindsay Gym have them set to play in Monday’s state sectional with University High at Johnson City. “We had good energy yesterday,” said JHS Head Coach Mike Reynolds.

Jellico will leave the Gem City Monday at 1:30, eat its pre-game meal at Knoxville and arrive at Brooks Gym about 5:45pm. “We won’t be able to take the floor until 6:30,” said Reynolds.

Both teams ran through their respective districts unbeaten, University 6 & 0, Jellico 8 & 0. Each has won 8 out of their last 10 games. In all games, Jellico is 19 & 11 and University is 23 & 8.

“University is well coached, and we must handle their full court man-to-man press. They want to take you out of your offense more so than steal the ball, which they’re also good at doing. University will try to speed us up. So, we must take good shots “and” make them,” said the 16th year head coach.

“We’ll run our 1-3-1 defense, and, at times, a point zone. John Zecchini and Dre Webb will swap out at that top spot of the zone,” said Reynolds.

Jellic WLAF and WJJT will provide dual radio coverage like last week. Watch the live telecast of the game over any of the WLAF media platforms; 1450wlaf.com (the Lindsay’s Carpet & Paint Center video player), Roku, Amazon Fire, YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and WLAF-TV 1089. The coverage is presented by Hope+Stand, The Pizza Spot, UBank, Maximum Performance and Common Ground. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/04/2024-6AM)
