Jacksboro man charged with speeding and being a felon in possession of a weapon

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A Jacksboro man remains housed in the Campbell County Jail following a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon.

La Follette Narcotics Det. Noah Riggs was on routine patrol just after 2pm Tuesday when he saw Charles Pittman, the driver of a Ford Focus, traveling south on South Ave. not wearing a seat belt. As Riggs watched the Ford head west on Highway 25W, he noticed it allegedly pick up speed. The officer paced the Ford allegedly at 55 miles per hour in the 40 mph zone.

The high speed prompted Riggs to conduct a traffic stop near the car wash across from Campbell High.

A search of the Ford allegedly revealed a semi-automatic hand gun containing a loaded magazine with 15 rounds. Also discovered was a spare magazine and box of 50 9mm ammo. All of the items were found under the passenger’s seat.

Pittman and his passenger allegedly denied the gun belonged to them. The pair added they didn’t know how the gun got there.

Charges levied against Pittman include the seat belt law, 55 in a 40 and unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. Pittman does not have a bond and is due in court on March 12. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/29/2024-6AM)
