LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- A broken taillight cost a LaFollette woman a trip to jail.

On Feb. 6, around 5pm, LaFollette Police Officer Noah Riggs stopped a grey 2013 Ford on East Beech Street due to a broken taillight.

When the officer spoke with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Dawn Michelle Kitts, he discovered she lacked insurance and a driver’s license. Riggs asked Kitts if she had a Tennessee ID card. She allegedly didn’t but claimed to know the number. She gave the number to Riggs along with a false name, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department.

After Riggs learned her true ID number and name, it was discovered Kitts allegedly had several outstanding warrants. As Riggs was preparing to search Kitts vehicle, she allegedly handed him a glass pipe and a small amount of a green leafy substance in a rubber glove believed to be a schedule VI controlled substance.

Kitts, 51, 244 Farris Circle, LaFollette was charged with no driver’s license, violation of TN financial law, simple possession of schedule VI, hold for Claiborne County, two counts violation of probation, unlawful drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation, possession of schedule II controlled substance.
