Jayden Kitts, Bella Lester and Lacey Pemberton are named All-Tourney for Campbell

FOUNTAIN CITY, TN (WLAF) – For the first time since 2018-19, the Lady Cougars found themselves in the district 3-AAAA championship game. For the third time this season, Campbell would face off against the Lady Wildcats of Oak Ridge.

It was a fast start for Campbell, as they jumped in front of the Lady Wildcats 6-5 midway through the first quarter. This, however, would be the last lead the Lady Cougars would possess. At the end of the first, Oak Ridge led the Orange-and-Blue 13-8.

Oak Ridge extended its lead to 24-14 at the halftime break.

Every run that Campbell would make would be quickly ended by either a whistle or an Oak Ridge bucket. After three, it was the Lady Wildcats on top by a score of 36-22.

Bella Lester and Jayden Kitts provided for some excitement in the fourth quarter with a couple successful three pointers. However, this was short lived. When the horn sounded, Oak Ridge claimed its 9th consecutive district tournament title. The Lady Wildcats defeated your Lady Cougars 49-31.

Bella Lester and Jayden Kitts, your Local Realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game, both scored nine points apiece for the Lady Cougars. Carley Kitts totaled eight points. Lacey Pemberton tallied three points, and Saylor Hutcheson scored two points. Preslee Chapman, Reagan Stanfill, and Destiny Rutherford all played but did not score.

In a game where Oak Ridge shot 26 free throws, opposed to Campbell’s eight, both Bella Lester and Saylor Hutcheson fouled out.

The Lady Cougars do not have time to dwell on the loss, as the Orange-and-Blue are back in action Friday at Brown Court. Campbell hosts Maryville, the third place team from District 4, in a win-or-go home matchup for round one of the Region 2-4A tournament.
