JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Saturday’s Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast had a great turnout, drawing a crowd at the First Baptist Church of Jacksboro.

The monthly event is hosted by the county mayor’s office and commissioners and takes place the first Saturday of the month. Each breakfast is sponsored, with February’s event courtesy of State Representative Dennis Powers.

A speaker or entertainment is at each event. Saturday’s speaker was Commissioner for Tennessee’s Department of Veteran Services, General Tommy Baker.

He has served in this position since December of 2020. As Commissioner, he “manages the agency’s operations, coordinates mission execution, and oversees 127 state employees.”

General Baker retired from the Tennessee National Guard with 41 years of services, as the Deputy Commander to the Adjutant General. He was “responsible for overseeing and administering more than 13,000 Soldiers and Airmen in the Tennessee National Guard.”

He spoke to veterans and their families about veteran services the state of Tennessee provides.

Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfasts are held the first Saturday of the month at the First Baptist Church of Jacksboro. Doors open at 8 am, with breakfast at 8:30. All military veterans and their guests are invited to attend this monthly free event. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/05/2024-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF KEISHA HOWARD WITH THE MAYORS OFFICE)
