DUFF, TN (WLAF) – The Creekside Market (above photos) on Stinking Creek Road was fully involved when firefighters arrived just after 8am Wednesday. It was the second major fire of the morning. The first was a 4am non-injury blaze that totally destroyed a Gladefield Lane home.

Firefighters had a difficult time knocking down the Creekside Market fire, according to Nick Nelson, deputy chief with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service. Nelson explained it was quite a while before firefighters could enter the structure.

Multiple agencies fought the fire for several hours.

A body was found inside the burned out building, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) was called in to investigate. “TBI special agents are working alongside the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a fire that occurred Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of Stinking Creek Road in La Follette. One person was found deceased inside the structure. At this time, the investigation into the cause of the fire remains active and ongoing,” said Leslie Earhart, TBI public information officer.

Responding agencies were the CCRFS, Caryville and White Oak Volunteer Fire Departments along with the Jellico Rescue Squad and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/31/2024-4PM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF THE CCRFS)
