JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – After beating your Cougars at Jeff Hunter Gymnasium on Tuesday, 58-51, Powell came to Campbell County to battle the Orange-and-Blue on Thursday.
Campbell started off much quicker than they did at Powell, as Tyler Kitts drained a midrange jumper to give Campbell the early 2-0 lead. Jake Hatmaker also got in on the fun in the first quarter with four points. This however, would be all of the excitement in the first half. Powell exploded for a 13-0 run to jump in front of the Cougars 21-8 midway through the second quarter. The Panthers sank a three at the halftime buzzer to increase their lead to 26-14.
In the third quarter, Powell kept rolling, and Campbell never got things going. In the first four minutes of the third, the Panthers outpaced the Cougars 10-2. Campbell only managed seven points in the third quarter, to trail Powell at the end of the third frame 44-21.
No Campbell comeback would be made as Powell left John Brown Gym with a 50-28 win.
Campbell now falls to 1 and 5 in district 2 Region 3 (4-A) play and 7 and 14 on the year. As for the Panthers, they improve to 20 and 2 on the season, 5 and 2 in district play.
Luke Browning led the scoring column for Campbell County with nine points. Jake Hatmaker, your Local Realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game, was second in scoring with six. Dylan Ford scored five. Tyler Kitts tacked on four. Gavin Cox had two points. Keegan Nelson and Brady Hatmaker both had one point apiece. Logan Day, Jordan Day, Will Croley, and Cole Miller all saw action, but did not score.
The Cougars will not be able to dwell on this loss for long, as Campbell travels to Oak Ridge on Friday. Josh Parker sends you the coverage beginning at 6 pm with the Lady Cougars game, and the Cougars tip at 7:30.
