Derrick Lee Anderson marked his 10th year on the air at WLAF on Wednesday

Candace West, Derrick Lee’s girlfriend, (left) is joined by WATE 6 news anchor Lori Tucker and photo journalist Kaylee were some of the folks on hand for Derrick’s 10-year celebration.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The glow on Derrick Lee Anderson’s face shined all morning Wednesday as he was celebrated by family, friends and well wishers. “I knew you were probably going to surprise me, but I had no idea the day was going to be named ‘Derrick Lee Anderson Day’ in La Follette,” said Anderson.

La Follette Mayor Cliff Jennings and Vice-Mayor Wayne Kitts presented Derrick with a proclamation declaring it “Derrick Lee Anderson Day.” Donna Weaver, Assistant City Clerk, so fittingly crafted the proclamation.

Derrick’s girlfriend, Candace West, and WATE 6 News Anchor Lori Tucker brought gifts. Tucker’s gifts included some of Derrick’s favorite food especially donuts.

WATE’s Lori Tucker told Derrick that she knew he loved donuts, pizza and fried chicken and that donuts travel really well.

Aside from several phone calls, there were also comments sent to Derrick and expressed in person.

“It has been an honor to see and hear you on 1450wlaf for the last 10 years, my how time flies enjoyed every minute of it and also being able to say that I work with an exceptional young man is an understatement, the honor is all mine DLA,” Les Martin

Candace West, Derrick’s girlfriend, expressed how proud she was to attend Derrick’s event, congratulated him on his ten years and said she was thankful to have him in her life.

“Derrick Congratulations to be on the air for so long. You are an inspiration to everyone. I have watched you grow up from a child to a special grown man. You do an outstanding job on WLAF. I know people enjoy listening to you and I do. I hope you stay with WLAF for many more years,” Susie Johnson

“Congratulations Derrick on 10 years of excellent and professional service to the Campbell County community and citizens. Continued success and Best Wishes for many more positive years,” Randy Brown

Lori Tucker with WATE shared congratulations with Derrick Lee Anderson and that there are times his uplifting and encouraging emails to her come at just the right time.
