LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- LaFollette Utility Board crews have been working during this cold weather to prevent outages and will be in “emergency operations mode” for the next few nights, according to LaFollette Utility Board General Manager Kenny Baird. This means crews will be at the LUB offices ready to respond if problems arise as the next wave of cold weather settles in.

“Time is of the essence” when a power failure occurs in extreme weather conditions. “The quicker you get to it, the easier it is to fix,” according to Baird.

Currently, LUB has had one routine outage, he said.

With last night’s weather less than a quarter inch of ice fell, which is good. “These conditions are easier,” Baird said of amount of ice that accumulated last night.

At the moment there is not a request to reduce power and Baird doesn’t anticipate one going into the weekend. Businesses are usually closed and that reduces the need for electricity, he said.
