LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – There’s just not much doing when temperatures are as cold as they are, in the teens, and where they’re headed, near zero tonight. Snow and ice will not be budging much today despite the efforts of road crews. Tuesday becomes partly sunny with a high, this may be a stretch, of 21 before the mercury lands around zero overnight. Wind chills of 12 below during the day and then -20 after midnight. There is a WIND CHILL ADVISORY until noon and then from 5pm Tuesday until noon Wednesday.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service explain that light snow and freezing drizzle will end this morning. Hazardous black ice and snow covered roads will create dangerous travel conditions, especially for any untreated roads. In addition, cold wind chills below zero are expected tonight will result in possible hypothermia if outdoors for prolonged periods tonight through Wednesday morning.
Re-freezing of untreated roads and surfaces will be expected tonight as temperatures plummet to near zero.
With increasing sunshine Wednesday, minor snow melt will be possible in the afternoon. Re-freezing of untreated roads and surfaces will be possible once again Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with overnight temperatures in the lower teens to single digits.
Another round of snow and wintry mix is expected Thursday night and Friday. Very cold temperatures are likely again Friday night through the weekend with lows in the single digits and below zero wind chills. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/16/2024-6AM)
