Ankle injury forces Lacey Pemberton out of the game; doubtful for Tuesday’s district contest
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – On Campbell’s second possession, Bella Lester busted a three, and the Lady Cougars were off and running. Well. Not really. It was a first half to forget as Campbell left the floor at the mid-game break about ready to turn blue, because its shooting was so cold.
Campbell went more than seven minutes without points from the first quarter into the second quarter. South Doyle was not shooting any better. In the meantime, Campbell’s fine post player, Lacey Pemberton, went down with an ankle injury and did not return to action.
The Lady Cougars jumped out 8-2 with 3:48 left in the opening quarter, and then the cold shooting settled-in. It was an all threes first half; Lester, Jayden Kitts and two big threes from freshman Preslee Chapman to go along with couple of Lester free shots.
South Doyle outscored Campbell 13-6 to close the first half with a 15-14 lead at the break. In the Nov. 30th meeting on the Cherokees homecourt, the game was tied at 21 as the Lady Cougars broke away to win 51-33.
Campbell and the ‘Kees were tied at 21 in this game with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter. From there, Campbell scored the final 23 points of the night to win the game 44-21.
Preslee Chapman finished with ten points and had the shot of the night on a reverse lay up that sparked the Lady Cougars. Bella Lester was tops in the game with 17 as Jayden Kitts posted six while her sister Carley had four points. Leah Woodson finished with three while Reagan Stanfill and Destiny Rutherford tacked on two points apiece.
Campbell improves to 16 & 2 as South Doyle dips to 4 & 11.
