Listen over WLAF for today’s call of the Cougars-n-Bobcats from Josh Parker, Voice of the Cougars

CLINTON, TN (WLAF) – After stinging the Carter Hornets on Tuesday in the first round of the Anderson County Christmas Tournament, Campbell advanced to the winner’s bracket to face off with a very familiar opponent. For the third time in the young season, your 4 and 8 Cougars would match up against the 11 and 1 Governors of William Blount. In the first two meetings, Blount defeated Campbell in both games by a combined margin of 37 points.

William Blount got off to a blazing start, quickly leading Campbell 6-0 with 6:21 to go in the first, prompting a Cougar timeout. Finally, after four minutes had elapsed, Gavin Cox registered Campbell’s first two points on the scoreboard. This must have angered the Govs, as Blount retailed with a 17-0 run. Gabe St. John ended this run with the Orange-and-Blue’s first long shot of the night. Luke Browning drained a trey at the buzzer to make the score 35-8 at the end of the first.

Campbell broke double digits after another Gavin Cox mid-range bucket. Campbell still trailed the Govs though 40-10. After a turnover-ridden first half for Campbell, the Cougars remained behind William Blount 55-14.

In the third, the Governors continued their offensive extravaganza, outscoring Campbell 23-12. Blount led Campbell 78-26 after three.

Campbell found some offense from the bench players in the fourth quarter. Keegan Nelson, Will Croley, and Brady Hatmaker all scored from deep in the fourth. Unfortunately it was much too little too late, as the Governors coasted on to the win, ousting Campbell County out of a spot in the championship game, 81-38.

Gavin Cox, your local realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game, led the Orange-and-Blue with 12 points. Gabe St. John scored six points. Will Croley and Luke Browning both had 5 points in the scoring column. Brady Hatmaker and Keegan Nelson each had 3 points. Gavin Owens and Cole Miller rounded out the Cougar scoring with 2 points apiece. Jake Hatmaker and Dylan Ford played but did not score.

The Cougars fall to 4 and 9 on the season (0-2 in district play), and William Blount improves to 12 and 1.

Next up for Campbell is a battle for third place in the Anderson County Christmas tournament against Oliver Springs who fell to Anderson County 80-49 in the semifinal. Meanwhile, William Blount gets AC in the championship game.
