Campbell High teacher arrested on his way to work
KNOXVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – The U.S. Marshals’ Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force arrested Christopher Michael “Chris” Monaghan, 47, earlier this morning in LaFollette. Monaghan, wanted by the Orange County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office on one count of sexual battery on a child under 12, was arrested at West Central Avenue and Hwy 25W in Campbell County around 7:15am.

Given the charges, Florida investigators teamed up with the U.S. Marshals’ Florida Caribbean Regional
Fugitive Task Force in Orlando, and an investigation into his whereabouts ensued. The investigation
revealed that Monaghan was living in East Tennessee and working as a high school teacher for the
Campbell County High School.

Early Tuesday, officers with the U.S. Marshals’ Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Monaghan while on the west end of LaFollette, as he was on his way to school.

The arrest team was comprised of Deputy U.S. Marshals, officers from the Anderson County and Blount
County Sheriff’s Office, as well as officers from the LaFollette Police Department.
