WHITE PINE, TN (WLAF) – Bella Lester picked up where she left off on Tuesday, knocking down shots, and the Lady Cougars followed suit after Lester’s opening three. On Thursday evening, Campbell jumped out early on homestanding Lakeway Christian Academy.

The Lady Cougars stretched their lead out to 11 at 14-3 after back-to-back baskets by Saylor Hutcheson including a board and a bucket. From there, Lakeway scored 10 of the next 14 points carrying in to the second quarter to carve Campbell’s lead down to five at 18-13. The Lady Cougars were in front at the end of the first juncture, 18-9.

Once the Lady Lions run ended, they went ice cold without points for six minutes. All the while Campbell reeled off 20 straight points coming from Carley Kitts, Hutch, Lacey Pemberton, Destiny Rutherford and Preslee Chapman.

Campbell built its largest lead of the half at 25 with 1:45 to go before intermission. The Lady Cougars led at the half 38-19. Campbell outscored Lakeway 20-10 in quarter number two.

Turnovers and missed shots slowed Campbell’s torrid pace in the third quarter. Despite the cool down, Campbell kept Lakeway at bay outscoring the Lions 13-12 to lead 53-31 after three.

Early in the fourth quarter, a Carley Kitts three followed by a Pemberton free throw and threes from Hutch and Lester plus a free throw by Hutch pushed Campbell out in front by 35 at 66-31. Lakeway hit a three stopping a 15-0 run by the Lady Cougars.

A first half run of 20-0 coupled with the second half run of 15-0 proved to be the difference. Campbell held Lakeway scoreless for upwards of 10 minutes on the evening.

The leading scorer was Lacey Pemberton as four of the five Campbell starters made double digits. Pemberton had 15, 14 each came from Saylor Hutcheson and Bella Lester while Carley Kitts tallied a dozen. Destiny Rutherford scored six followed by four from Preslee Chapman, two each from Reagan Davis and Reagan Stanfill. Jayden Kitts chipped in a point.

Campbell is now 10 & 1 while Lakeway slips to 6 & 6. Lakeway is home with CAK on Friday marking its fourth game in five days. The Lady Cougars host the Walker Valley Mustangs on Tuesday.
