LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – LaFollette Police Officer Christian Southern answered a disturbance call last week at 107 Wheeler Lane, Sanders Apartments. A report from the LaFollette Police Department said Dakota Max Birchfield had called 911 several times, cursing the dispatchers and using obscenities. He also said he wanted to speak to the lieutenant on duty and asked if he had to shoot someone to get him to come his residence.

When Southern arrived at 4pm on Tue., Nov. 21, Birchfield came out of his apartment in an allegedly aggressive manor, yelling and cursing at Southern and other officers present. The report said he displayed threating behavior that served no legitimate purpose as he was approaching, ignoring commands to remove his hands from his pockets and assuming fighting behavior. It was determined that Birchfield had called the 911 emergency line nine times in an offensively repetitious manner, which could have delayed response to an actual emergency.

Birchfield also allegedly had a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath as he would speak. He also had watery bloodshot eyes. When Birchfield was asked about his alcohol intake, he reported that he had been consuming liquor, and it made him angry, according to the report.

Birchfield, 28, 281 Low Gap Rd, LaFollette was charged with public intoxication, misuse of 911 and disorderly conduct. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/30/2023-6AM)
