MARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Your Campbell Lady Cougars and Cougars made a trip to Maryville on Tuesday night to face off against William Blount. Up first, it was the 4-0 Lady Cougars battling the 3-2 William Blount Lady Governors.

Watch Josh Parker’s call of both the girls game and the boys game on deman HERE from WLAF.

The Lady Cougars continued their pattern of defensive master classes in this game, holding William Blount to only 2 points in the first quarter. Campbell led William Blount 6-2 at the end of the first.

It was much of the same in the second quarter.  At halftime, the Orange-and-Blue led the slightly brighter shade of orange-and-blue, William Blount Lady Governors, 23-13.

William Blount would outscore Campbell 8-7 in the third quarter, making the score 30-21 after three.

The Lady Govs mounted a comeback against Campbell in the fourth though after the Lady Cougars built their lead to 13 at 35-22 with a little more than five minutes to play. William Blount went on a 9-0 run, cutting the lead down to five with just over three minutes to go.  The game was set up for a thrilling finish, and a thrilling finish it was. Blount whittled the lead down to two with just over 10 seconds to go. Blount had a look from three and missed it, which allowed Campbell County to hang on for the win 42-40.

The Lady Cougar victory, which ended with the same final score that the last meeting between the two teams had in 2021, improves Campbell’s record to 5-0 for the first time since 2018.

Leading the scoring for your Lady Cougars was Bella Lester, your local realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game. Lester tallied 21 points on the night. Saylor Hutcheson racked up 10 against the Lady Govs; Carley Kitts totaled eight and Jayden Kitts scored three points.

Following the thrilling girls game, it was the boys turn to take on the Governors. The Cougars would jump out to a 9-6 lead before William Blount would rattle off an 8-0 run to lead Campbell 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Blount expanded its lead throughout the second quarter, leading Campbell County by a score of 41-15 at halftime.

The Cougars would outscore William Blount 26-12 in the third quarter, trailing the Governors 53-41 at the end of that quarter.

Campbell would not be able to complete the comeback though, as the Cougars fell to the Governors 68-57.

Luke Browning, who was your local relator Gage Dople Player of the Game, led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points. Gavin Cox had 13. Jordan Day scored 12. Logan Day tallied seven. Tyler Kitts and Gavin Owens both accounted for five points apiece.

Campbell drops to 3 & 3 on the year, while Blount improves to 5 and 1.
