JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – On Saturday afternoon, John R. W. Brown Gymnasium played host to the annual Cougar Madness, a pep rally-type event to get Campbell County fans ready for the upcoming basketball season and showcase the players and their skills.

The fun started with the introduction of the LaFollette Middle School girls and boys basketball teams, followed by a performance from the Jacksboro Middle School and Campbell County High School dance teams.

Following this, the first competition of the afternoon began. One player from each the Lady Cougars and Cougars would face off in a 1 minute three-point contest. Here are the results.

The two highest scores for the Lady Cougars and Cougars, Saylor Hutcheson and Jordan Day, faced off in the championship. Jordan Day took home the imaginary trophy, but real bragging rights, by hitting 18 three-pointers, to Hutcheson’s 9.

Also during the event, the Lady Cougars and Cougars faced off in another skills competition. Five teams of three would attempt to make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer, and a half court shot in under a minute. The Cougars defeated the Lady Cougars 3 out of 5 times.

Another highlight of the day was the honoring of the 2000-2001 Lady Cougar basketball team. That team finished 27-4 and was the regular season district champion.

Cougar Madness concluded with the recognizing of the JMS girls and boys basketball teams, and the Campbell County Cougars and Lady Cougars basketball teams.  

Both head coaches, Lady Cougar Coach Jason Kitts, and Cougar Coach Ernie “Mac” Clawson, are excited for the season to start and hope to have a fun, successful year on the hardwood.

Cougar Basketball tips off Tuesday, November 14, at Lenoir City. The girls game starts at 6 pm, and the boys game is to follow.
