Jill Claiborne Shumate, age 61 of LaFollette passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.  She was a member of LaFollette Methodist Church.  Jill loved all types of music, and with that love, served in many different roles in her church including Handbell Choir and Handbell soloist, Handchime Choir, Chancel Choir, and Ladies Ensemble, and assisted with any musical or play production.  She began working with the family business, Key Limestone, worked for a time with Town House Gallery, and was employed as an ad-designer with the local newspapers.  Jill loved the outdoors and spent many hours at the family cabin.  She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her Husband, Gilbert, four-wheelers, or anything else with wheels.  She also loved animals, especially cats, camping, and gardening, and always applauded her family and friends’ accomplishments.  Preceded in death by Father, Steve Claiborne, Grandparents, A. Russell and Miona Claiborne, and E.T. and Loleta Fowler, Uncle, Donn S. Claiborne, Sr., Cousin, A.R. “Rusty” Claiborne.

 Survivors: Husband of 28 years, Gilbert Shumate; Mother, Scotti Fowler Claiborne; Sister, Janet Claiborne; Many other cherished family members and friends. 

 The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home.  A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Chris Stanfield officiating.  The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Jill’s memory, or to spend a little extra time a special time with your family and friends in her honor, and to take care of your animals.  Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Jill Claiborne Shumate.
