LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- Gastric Bypass patients now have a resource to help them on their weight loss journey.
Protein is “critical” for patients as they adapt their food habits, said Anna Brooks of LaFollette Nutrition. Without enough protein they can lose muscle mass, hair and suffer metabolic issues. A lack of protein can also lead to hunger cravings resulting in poor food choices. But the shakes at LaFollette Nutrition offer 24 grams of protein while also being low in carbs and sugar, Brooks said.

Having undergone weight loss surgery previously, Brooks said she wishes she had access to the shakes in her recovery phase.
“I would have given anything to have these when I had my surgery,” she said.

Following the surgery, patients are placed on a liquid diet. The shakes at LaFollette Nutrition offer protein and flavor in that liquid form the patients need. To help with the caloric intake, the store offers a “Naked Shake,” said Macy Wilcox, owner. This is a shake without the extras such toppings or whipped cream. “I really encourage that for gastric bypass patients,” Wilcox said. She has over 50 flavors to choose from.
The specialty drinks are also another option for the patients. Those have collagen and biotin, both of which are good for the hair and nails while also offering 17 grams of whey protein. These have no sugar.
LaFollette Nutrition also offers High protein iced coffees with 15 grams of protein as well as 80 milligrams of caffenine. The store has five flavors of these.
Loaded teas are also available at the store. These are packed with vitamins and minerals while also being sugar free. The teas only have 24 calories and four carbs, Brooks said. They also offer hunger control.
As patients are able to eat solid food, they can order a waffle at the store.

“I can make any shake into a waffle,” Wilcox said.
Recently, LaFollette Nutrition introduced a new product. Super Food Bowls, also called a Hippie Bowl can be ordered at the store. They are vegan friendly, dairy free, gluten free and organic, Wilcox said. They have a flavored base with a sorbet texture then topped with a choice fruits, granola, peanut butter or honey.
“This is another option for lunch or breakfast,” Wilcox said.
When buying a combo of any two products a $2 discount is applied.
LaFollette Nutrition is located at 240 West Central Ave. in LaFollette.
