LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF) -The LaFollette Regional Planning Commission met last night at city hall with a full agenda.

James and Elaine Nelson presented a final plat review for a four-unit apartment building slated to be located at 1815 Old Jacksboro Hwy. City Administrator Stan Foust recommended approval of the plat review. The motion was approved and led directly into a residential site plan for the same four-unit building. All requirements were met including the hydrology study, and the motion was carried through.

An industrial site plan review was discussed. Diosdada Sanchez with surveyor Scott Bowlin presented the plan. The plan showed the addition of storage buildings at 1612 Old Jacksboro Hwy. This property is against the railroad tracks, and the applicant also needs a variance of 17 feet if the plan was built as it was presented. However, Foust recommended to the commission it have Sanchez flip the two new buildings and no variance would be needed. That course of action would result in a loss of storage units for Sanchez. The commission came to an agreement it would table this issue and work with Sanchez about finding the best course of action rather denying his request.

Jimmy Chaniott asked to transfer a paved portion of 411 East Chestnut Street to 407 East Chestnut Street. This property is located at Hollingsworth Meat Market. The motion was approved.

A preliminary commercial site plan was brought up by Travis Saffell. Saffell asked to take the old movie theater and transform it into an automated car wash. Scott Bowlin assured the commission the drainage would drain to the existing ditch. The motion was approved.

Jenny Welch  asked for approval for a new business location. She plans to open ‘Be Your Best Health and Wellness Center’ to be located at 1214 Jacksboro Pike, across from the former IGA. The commission was concerned as to whether pain medicine or narcotics were going to be prescribed by this business. Welch assured them there would be none. The motion was approved.

An in-home occupation request was brought by Karina Huff. Huff would like to open a dog boarding and rescue facility on her property. She explained it would be a pre-fab building and would house 15 kennels for 15 dogs. Foust told the commission there is a code preventing that, because she has neighbors within 1,000 feet. The commission denied her request although everyone was in agreement this is a needed business.
