LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Two Campbell County Elementary Cross Country Team members have accomplished an exciting feat. Liam Childress, a 5th grader from Caryville Elementary School, and Channing Dotson, a 4th grader at Valley View Elementary School, have qualified to run at the 2023 Tennessee State Elementary School Cross Country Championships.

Both Childress and Dotson qualified by having times in the top 30 out of 300 at the regional meet held October 7th at Victor Ash Park in Knoxville. Liam and Channing had their best times of the year at the regional meet, with Liam being the top qualifier.

Coach Drew Crabtree said that “both kids came in, set a goal, and told me from the beginning, that they wanted to make it to state.” Crabtree said that Liam and Channing “worked their tails off from June through September,” and he was excited to see all of their hard work pay off.

The state meet will be held this Saturday at 12:30pm EDT (11:30 CDT) at Shelby Farms at Memphis. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/26/2023-6AM)
