LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Highway Department crews along with a TDOT crew had their work cut out long before their planned Tuesday work on the turn off from the four lane to Hunters Branch Road. Around 7am Tuesday, a big rig misread its turn and ended up on the guardrail. The rig was eventually freed from the guardrail, and work began.
“TDOT stabilized the shoulder today. The guardrail folks are up next to make their installment, and I’m not sure of their time table,” said Campbell County Road Superintendent Ron Dilbeck. Hunters Branch is mostly a shortcut to and from Demory Road and carries some 3,000 vehicles a day, according to the road super. Dilbeck adds that Towe String Road is the heaviest traveled county road at a volume of 4,000 vehicles daily.
“I’ve asked for a deceleration lane and a wider approach. Not sure if we’ll get it, but I’ve requested that from TDOT,” said Dilbeck. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/18/2023-6AM)
