CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – At Monday night’s monthly meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, the board decided to not host the annual Trunk or Treat. Mayor Bobby Stooksbury told the board about his concerns of hosting a Trunk or Treat with playground construction in progress, and he said they would “come back bigger next year.”

After two years of waiting the Caryville Street Department is getting a new truck. The truck is a 2023 F-550 4X4 with a price tag of $51,821. The truck was ordered two years ago and is now ready for delivery. An aluminum dump bed is being purchased for the truck from Bull Head Products for $17,575.

Two ordinances were passed beginning with Ordinance 2023-05 adopting by reference state traffic offenses and rules of the road, next was Ordinance 2023-06 amending the personnel policy.

The board approved applying for the Driver Safety Grant. This is done yearly.

The purchase of two Kenwood portable digital radios for the fire department was approved. The radios will cost $11,061.94.

The Caryville Cares Playground is not far from completion.

Stooksbury announced that longtime planning commission member Helen Allen had resigned from her seat. Stooksbury told the board that he is open to nominations. He continued that anyone who is interested in the seat should call city hall. Anyone interested must be a Caryville resident and have lived in Caryville for at least a year.

The new Caryville Cares Playground is across the road from Shoney’s.

The library issued its annual report for 2023. The library was open 2,340 hours, had 8,482 people come to the library with 2,841 people having a library card. There were 3,039 public internet computer users and 1,433 wi-fi connections. The library offered 243 total programs with 2,053 people in attendance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/10/2023-6AM)
