LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A La Follette man, described by authorities as a habitual offender, remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning on a $100,000 bond following a late Sunday night traffic stop.

On Hunter’s Branch Road is where La Follette Police Officer Jesse Ferguson observed a black single-cab Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck traveling south and crossing the center line twice. In his report, the officer explains that the driver of the truck, 52-year old James Norris of 896 Glade Springs Road, was slow to pull over after Ferguson initiated his emergency equipment where Hunters Branch Road crosses Demory Road at Robin Lane. “He passed many places to stop,” Officer Ferguson states in his narrative.

Once stopped, Ferguson walked to the driver’s window seeing an orange pill bottle and a clear baggy with a dark substance in the grass near the truck’s rear tire, based on the report. The officer notes that when he made contact with Norris, Norris told him that he did not have a drivers license.

Officer Ferguson checked Norris’s drivers license through dispatch getting confirmation that it was revoked for DUI with three priors. Additionally, Ferguson learned that the registration plate displayed on the truck did not match with the truck.

Norris was placed under arrest and put inside Ferguson’s patrol car. The officer then picked up the items he had spotted earlier near a back tire of the truck. According to the report, he recovered a clear baggy of a green leafy substance, one baggy of a crystal-like substance and six orange pills. Ferguson then found a glass pipe sticking out of the seat next to Norris.

A Thursday court date awaits Norris who was charged with felony possession over a half gram, possession of schedule III and VI controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with or fabricating evidence, misuse of registration, driving while in possession of meth.
