JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Board of Education held a special called meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss and review the Director of Schools evaluation.

DOS Jennifer Fields scored an overall 2.21 on the evaluation. A 1 is “below expectation,” a 2 “meets expectations” and a 3 is “above expectation.”

“She received 79-percent of 2s and 3s, so the biggest part of her evaluation meets or exceeds expectations,” said BOE chair Sharon Ridenour.

She recieved a 1.83 on the evaluation regarding “employing the most qualified staff for the school district.”

Fields addressed this with board members.

“We are in a nationwide teacher shortage. We do have unfilled positions with zero applicants, and that’s consistent across the state. We advertise, we do our best, but its not easy to recruit when our compensation is not as competitive as other districts,” Fields said.

Ridenour said she did not think it was fair that it knocked her scores down when there’s a nationwide teacher shortage.

The Campbell County Board of Education held a special called meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss and review the Director of Schools evaluation.

Board of Education board member Josh James said he felt the school district was 100 percent better than before she came on board.

“It’s an honor for me to do this job and the students and teachers of Campbell County are my priority,” Fields said.

At the special called meeting, board members voted to send the Director of Schools evaluation on to be discussed and voted on by the full board at the Aug. 15 (CORRECTION:  The meeting will be Tue., Aug. 8) monthly school board meeting.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/02/2023-6AM)
