JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- As her criminal charges approached the four year mark, Monica Muse learned her fate.

In 2019, Muse, her husband John Muse, Sr. and her son, John Muse, Jr., were arrested for stealing more than $250,000 worth of items.

Earlier this year, Monica Muse pled guilty to numerous theft charges for her part in the crime ring. While she pled guilty, how her consequences would look were yet to be determined. Muse owed a large sum of restitution to her victims.

Yesterday, Muse’s outcome was learned.

Appearing in court with her attorney, T. Scott Jones, it was reported that of the $51,000 Muse owed in restitution, she had $28,000 with her. That money would be given to the court clerk where it could be sent to the victims, Lindsey Cadle, assistant district attorney general said.

The remaining $23,000 in restitution will be paid over the next two years.

Along with paying restitution, Muse will spend 10 years on probation.

Noting that her series of crimes was “very serious,” Criminal Court Judge Zach Walden said probation was appropriate for Muse. The $51,000 restitution would not be paid if Muse were incarcerated, Walden said.

In 2021, Muse’s husband, and alleged co-conspirator, John Muse, Sr., died. As a result, the charges against him were abated, meaning the case will not continue.

In Feb. 2021, the couple’s son, and partner in crime, John Muse, Jr., pleaded guilty to six counts of theft over $2,500, three counts of theft over $1,000, two counts of theft over $10,000, three counts of theft under $1,000 and one count of theft over $60,000. He wasn’t sentenced at the time. He will now be placed on an upcoming docket to resolve his outstanding charges, Cadle said.

In court, Jones said that Monica Muse was not the one who committed the actual thefts, it was her dead husband and son.

Authorities discovered the family’s cache of stolen items in Nov. 2019.

From clothes to furniture to major appliances to food, the Muse home had an abundant quantity of just about everything both new and used, authorities said.

During the investigation, police learned that some of the items recovered at the Muse home dated back to thefts that were reported more than four years ago.
