LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The man who loved teaching, especially math and basketball, has died. Jerry Dagley passed away Tuesday afternoon at his valley home following a lengthy illness.
Dagley starred in basketball at Jacksboro High School and later at King College. However, it was at Jacksboro’s arch-rival, La Follette High, where Dagley excelled as a coach, first as an assistant and later two stints as head coach in the 1960s and 1970s. Dagley’s 1969 team, a team that was not expected to be that good, was likely his best team. That team advanced to the semi-finals of the region in a time when the tournaments were sudden death.
The old coach was a regular, especially on the front row at Brown Gym, at Campbell High basketball games. He was as much a fan of the girls as he was the boys and followed the Cougars and Lady Cougars every game whether in person or watching over WLAF.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Walters Funeral Home.
Jerry Dagley was 78 years old. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/19/2023-6AM)

He will always live in our memories as the good good man that he was. I knew his family, as did my Mom and Dad. All of them are good people, a tribute to their parents. He and Charlotte raised good girls. Rest in your Heavenly Reward Jerry.
From the time I met him in 1967, he was a great and caring man. When I was a freshman at UT, he would call and we would go watch teams practice. He always loved Charlotte. A wonderful person. RIP Coach. (PS: You are right, the 1969 team was his best!)
Very sad to hear of Mr. Dagley’s passing. He was my Algebra II teacher at CCHS. I’ve always referred to him as one of the best teachers that I ever had. Prayers for his family.
