LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Great Smoky Mountain Council and Campbell County Scouting will be holding a “Homesteader’s Bushcraft Bash” this Saturday, July 15, from 10am till 4 pm, at the Stables at 295, Fincastle Road, LaFollette. 

“Everyone is invited,” according to Troop 310 Assistant Scout leader Stewart Thacker. 

Campbell County’s newest scout division, ‘Venturing’ will also be unveiled at Saturday’s event. 

According to Thacker, “Venturing is a division of Scouting designed to promote higher adventure and more advanced skills from the get go.”

Venturing units select a point of emphasis on its training regimen and Campbell County’s unit will be focused on “primitive living skills.”

“We will be teaching pioneering, bushcraft and a plethora of additional skills to embrace our Appalachian Culture from past generations,” Thacker said.

Along with the unveiling of the Scout Venturing Unit, Campbell County’s current Scout units will come together to hold the Homesteader’s Bushcraft Bash. 

According to Thacker, Scouts BSA Troops 310 and 435 along with Cub Scout Pack 108 will be manning different stations for the public to take part in. 

Some of these events include archery, axe throwing, black powder rifle, blacksmithing, fishing station, mountain rafts, shelter building and more.

Scout leaders are also inviting crafters and anyone who would like to show a skill to participate in Saturday’s event.

“We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday on a special day for Scouting in our community,” Thacker said.
