JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Board of Education met Tuesday evening with approval of a school resource officer program memorandum, school trips and the acceptance of bids topping the agenda.  Other business included the approval of an Elementary School Dental Program agreement and the approval of an increase of the 11 month assistant principal pay supplement from the current amount of $7,625 to the revised amount of $12,000.

“These folks haven’t had a raise in a long time,” said school board chair Sharon Ridenour.

Multiple school trips were approved, including for the CCHS HOSA to travel to Dallas for a HOSA Conference, as well as for the CCHS FBLA to attend National Conference in Atlanta. Also approved through executive action was a CCHS girls basketball team trip to travel to Pensacola Beach for the Basketball Classic being held in Florida Dec. 26, through the 29. The Jellico High School Boy’s Basketball team was approved to travel to the University of Virginia for team camp in Wise, Virginia, June 16 through June 18. The Jellico High School Cheerleaders were approved to travel to Air Raid Trampoline Park at Corbin.

Director of Schools Jennifer Fields gave her report, updating board members that the safety grant had been successfully loaded and $200,000 in funds will be utilized across the school district.  The sheriff’s office has also applied for a grant to cover costs of a school resource officer in each school, which would free up school district funds.

Fields also said gun safes had been installed in all schools to store SRO officers’ long guns.

“They will be brought in in the morning, locked up and then removed each evening,” Fields said.

The school system still has several assistant principal positions and teaching positions available.

She announced that the district’s summer school was running smoothly with 130 students attending; 37 students are attending summer school to meet third grade retention.

Parking lot sealing and striping projects are in progress at multiple schools and the lighting project at Jellico High School is going out for bid next week.

School board members voted to accept the low bids for the White Oak School gym bleachers and the Jacksboro Middle School bleachers from Maxwell Athletics.

Only one bid was received for the CCHS Baseball field house roof replacement. That bid was from Dixie Roofing at $47,200 and was approved.

The low bid for janitorial supplies was also approved from Ellison Supply.

The school board will be advertising bids soon for ice cream products and school beverages.

Two Christian Learning Center Syllabus for Fall of 2023 and spring of 2024 were also approved.

“We have that program at CCHS, and it’s been very successful. The state has given them a full credit,” Ridenour said.

The school board voted to change the director of schools evaluation packet that gets sent out.

“I’m proposing we use this shorter one,” Ridenour said. Evaluation packets will be sent out on June 16 and should be returned by June 30.

The school resource officer memorandum approved was for an agreement that the school district has with the Sheriff’s office each year. According to Fields, the only change to the agreement was the word “guardians has been added, where before it had only listed parents.”

The school board recessed its meeting until 5:30 pm on Thu., June 29 to finalize end of year housekeeping before the new budget year starts.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/14/2023-6AM)
