LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – There was drama outside the lines Thursday at a youth softball game at Pine Park when a teen brandished a pistol.

“A male juvenile went to the concession stand and lifted his shirt displaying a pistol in his waistband to the female juvenile who was working the stand,” said Lt. Matthew Forsyth of the La Follette Police Department. The girl ran screaming for help while the boy ran away, according to the lieutenant.

Though just coming off an extended day of duty, La Follette Police Officer Anthony Mahar was in attendance still in full uniform. Fans yelled to Mahar, and he pursued the boy on foot. The boy ran to an ATV up the street with a male driver already on it, jumped aboard and drove off.

Forsyth said Mahar and other LPD Officers soon found both male juveniles and located a CO2 pellet pistol. The boys were both charged; the alleged pistol carrier for aggravated assault and tampering with evidence; the suspected ATV driver for conspiracy and tampering with evidence.

“These young men will be cited into court and will see the judge next week. I’m so proud of our officers for a good response in getting them detained,” said Forsyth. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/19/2023-11AM)
